EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

NAEA School of Art Leaders, 2023 Cohort Fellow                                               2023 - Present

  • Collaborate with a national cohort of art education leaders to pursue individual leadership goals and present findings at the 2023 NAEA conference. Specific goals include:

    • Develop hard leadership skills in ED&I curriculum writing, facilitation, and event planning on the school, district, and cultural institution level.

    • Develop soft leadership skills in project management, team building and calculated risk taking.     

NYDOE Office of Arts and Special Services: CAN Lead Coach                           2023 - Present

  • Support a team of 20 CAN (Connected Arts Network) coaches in addressing their facilitation needs and planning intervisitations for district 20, 21 and 31.  

  • Create official CAN content including presentations slides, supplemental documents, and online Canvas courses.

  • Collaborate with the Borough Arts President and the Arts Office Executive Director to roll-out new initiatives and plan kick-off trainings at major arts institutions.

  • Co-organize the scope, sequence and content for the CAN 2023 teacher training curricula.

NYDOE Office of Arts and Special Services: Cohort Coach                2008-2014, 2022 - Present

  • Facilitate yearlong teacher training with a teacher cohort regarding SEL, ED&I and Formative Assessment.

  • Provide formative feedback for teacher generated CAN unit plans.

  • Develop formative assessment strategies that were presented at the 2014 NAEA Conference and January 2014 Periodical.

School Building Leader Intern at Montauk I.S. 223                                              2023 - Present

  • Facilitate ongoing ED&I trainings that are adaptive to major subject areas.

  • Conduct cognitive coaching with new teachers to facilitate teacher directed learning.

  • Co-edit the CEP with a particular focus on ELA SMART goals.

  • Lead ongoing PDs on classroom design. Coordinate a “make-over” team of students that assist teachers in organizing visually stimulating and functional classrooms.

  • Develop a workshop series for emerging artist educators regarding teaching fundamentals and maintaining a studio practice.

  • Collaborated with a council of educators to create workshops partnering public school teachers with established artists such as Nari Ward, to hone richer pedagogical and studio practices.

  • Co-organize a walking tour with Black Gotham Experience to explore Black history in LES.

Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY:  Cooperating Teacher                                         2007- 2014, 2019

  • Provided a supportive environment for undergraduate and graduate student teachers to develop their teaching style. Mentored students on sound pedagogy and edTPA training.

  • Lead various workshops on formative assessment, ELL differentiation and teacher portfolios.

FULL TIME TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Montauk I.S. 223, Brooklyn, NY:  Teaching Artist                                 September 2002- Present

  • Collaborate with administrators to develop an art program that revitalized a once struggling school. In 2005, the art program increased overall enrollment by 20%.

  • Offer an Advanced Art Program for students seeking admission into specialized art high schools. Accomplishments include:

  • Guiding students to create a 15-piece portfolio demonstrating mastery of color, light, design, and observational drawing in various art media.

  • Preparing students and families for high school drawing tests and interviews.

  • Maintaining a 95% acceptance rate of student admission into specialized high schools. 

  • Employ ongoing action research in ED&I, SEL and formative assessment.  

  • Manage a classroom like a professional artist workshop, with a focus on Studio Habits of Mind.  

  • Foster partnerships with leading arts institutions such as The New Museum and Pratt Institute.

  • Coordinate an annual art show with student led tours and live figure drawing sessions.

  • Promote student work in public art shows such as PS Art and the Brooklyn Borough Arts Fair.
